This summer learning project for middle school students is perfect for summer learning camps, a summer learning academy, or as at-home work to prevent summer learning loss ("summer slide"). Focused on a planning a family vacation on a budget, students will use research and math skills to plan a vacation, make a presentation to "sell" the vacation to family, write journal entries about the process, use mapping skills to design a resort layout, and complete a grapple journal entry about the project.

The learning packet includes an overview and teaching guide, student instructions, a research organizer, presentation template, blank journal pages, blank graph paper, and a grapple journal page.

Students will work on summer learning activities such as:

Research and build a complete vacation on a budget

Students use travel and vacation resource sites to plan all aspects of a vacation, using math skills and critical thinking to achieve the best option for less than $1000.

Prepare a "sales presentation" describing the vacation to family

Using Google Slides or paper, students will create a 5-panel presentation designed to provide their family with all of the information about the proposed vacation.

Keep a reflective journal

While researching and presenting their vacation, students will complete 5 reflective journal entries on the process.

Download the learning packet for the rest of the summer learning project!
