This ELA-based lesson features a read-aloud of Lina Maslo's "Free as a Bird: The Story of Malala" picture book. The teacher will model how to identify character traits in characters by their actions, words, feelings, and thoughts. Guided and independent practice activities focus on reinforcing this skill. This lesson is ideal to do with students from grades 1-4 and is conducive to partner or groupwork.
