Grandparent’s Day Interview Activity FAQ

Who is this activity for?

This Grandparent’s Day interview activity is perfect for elementary school students. Not only does it promote conversational skills, but it also helps students work on their handwriting and spelling.

How should my class complete this Grandparent's Day interview activity?

We recommend assigning the Grandparent’s Day interview as a homework assignment prior to Grandparent’s Day on October 6th.

Give your students enough time to complete the activity, understanding that some students may not see or speak to their grandparents often.

On Grandparent’s Day, consider having each student share their interview with the class.

What if some students do not have grandparents?

Some students may not have grandparents, or may not know their grandparents. In this case, they can complete the interview with their parent or guardian.

Consider reaching out to parents prior to this assignment, or speaking to them at parent-teacher conferences, to discover if any students in the class would be uncomfortable with or sad about the Grandparent’s Day interview.

How can I extend the Grandparent's Day interview activity into a larger lesson plan?

If your students are older, consider turning the Grandparent’s Day interview activity into a larger writing assignment. Students in the 4th and 5th grades could use the interview as an outline for writing a short essay about their chosen grandparent.
