(10-15 minutes, computers/tablets and internet):
Go to MyHero.com and type “Earthkeeper” into the search box. Choose an individual or organization and read or listen to their accomplishments. Write a thank you letter to him or her (or the organization), telling them what you appreciate about their efforts to protect Earth’s natural resources. Try to find the address of the organization to mail the letter. Remind students not to include personal information in the letter.
Get Real
(10-15 minutes, computers/tablets and internet):
Have students go to EPA’s My Environment page to determine the quality of air and water in their hometown. After accessing the website, students enter their zip code. Then, have students click the air tab (looks like a cloud) and learn the air quality of their town. Next, students can click on the water tab (looks like a water drop) to learn about their town’s water quality.
