The word problems in this printable math worksheet allow students to apply the arithmetic skills they have practiced to real-life situations involving money. They must decide whether it is appropriate to add, multiply, subtract, or divide to complete the exercises.

Solve

(10-15 minutes, coins, a die, paper bags, Coin Gameboard printable):
Divide into groups of 2-3. Give each group a bag with a few of each coin, and a die. Students should roll the die and take the corresponding number of coins out of the bag without looking. Then, the student counts the coins and records the number on the Coin Gameboard worksheet. The student with the most coins at the end of the game is the winner.

Get Real

(5-10 minutes, Going Shopping printable):
Cut the Going Shopping printable apart and pass one square to each student. Tell the students that they must find their “match” and sit down as fast as they can…students race to find the coins that match the items being sold.
