Solve

Using some of the data from the worksheet, have students create a very simple bar graph or pie chart to represent individual data points. For example, students could create a bar graph representing the total number of glasses of water drunk on Saturday and Sunday, where the vertical axis is labeled 0-10 (by twos) and the horizontal axis is labeled Saturday and Sunday. Or they could create a simple pie chart that breaks down, by child, the total number of glasses of water drunk.

Reflect

Share the USDA’s “Fluid Facts” water consumption guidelines for children with your class, being sure to point out the number of cups of water they should consume daily while reinforcing the idea that they can (and do) get water from other sources. Create a simple table chart (or use a simple graphic organizer) and ask students to keep track of their daily water intake for one week. At the end of the week, have students compare their table to the table in the USDA guidelines and reflect on whether they were successful in meeting their daily water intake goal.
