Snail, Snail

Objectives
Students will build community and practice cooperation skills.
Materials
Masking Tape
Procedures
  1. Tape a circle on the floor big enough so that each child may sit comfortably on the tape.
  2. Have children find a seat in the circle. You stand in the middle.
  3. Explain that when you give a certain signal (of your choosing) they will stand up and hold each other's hands.
  4. Encourage children to continue holding hands throughout the activity, but also not to hold hands too tightly.
  5. Give signal. Students should stand and hold hands. Have them walk in a circle, on the taped circle.
  6. Once children have practiced this and are able to walk in a circle without letting go of hands, take the hand of one of the students.
  7. Tell the students that they are going to make a snail by wrapping the line around you.
  8. Have the student at the head of the line walk slowly in a circle, wrapping the line around you in a spiral. When no one is left moving the line is complete.
  9. Extend the activity by making smaller and smaller taped circles on the floor, seeing how small the circle can be without the students bumping into each other too much.
Build community with younger students while playing the "snail" game.
