An epic adventure poem from the beginning of Greek literature, The Odyssey is the legendary story of the Greek expedition to reclaim Helen from the city of Troy. Like its partner epic The Iliad, it has long been attributed to the poet Homer, though most scholars believe it's a story passed down in the oral tradition through many generations. This teacher's guide to the version translated by Robert Fitzgerald contains suggested background reading, questions for classroom discussion and for further study, and extension activities.
