Mixed Tables: Money for Chores

A price list for jobs helps students determine how much money each child will get paid for different tasks. Students must multiply to figure out how much each person is owed.

This worksheet includes several FutureFit Extension Activities that highlight 21st Century skills like initiative and real-world understanding. These FutureFit Extension Activities are designed to reinforce the concepts included in the worksheet activity while integrating real-world skills. They can be used as in-class independent practice or group activities, or assigned for take-home or independent work.

Get Going

Break students into small groups and using the worksheet as a guide, give them 5 minutes to brainstorm a minimum of 5 ideas for jobs that could be done around the classroom in return for “pay” or “rewards.” (Rewards should be things like: no homework passes, extra computer time, etc.). On a 2-column graphic organizer, chart, or on the board, have them record the jobs and the associated rewards. At the end of the 5-minute period, groups should share out their job ideas, and the class should pick the top idea from each group. Write the top ideas on the board (or add them to your current jobs/helpers board).

Get Real

Using the list of jobs generated from the above activity, have students create a bulletin board with a chart that tracks who is responsible on which day for which job, how many rewards have been earned, and how the rewards will be paid out.
