Objectives
- Students will learn historical and current information about states.
- Students will create a project highlighting one historically important site and outlining facts about the state it is in.
- Students will perform an oral report.
Materials
- One folder for each student
- Reference materials about historically important places
- State Facts and Figures
- Markers, pens, pencils
Procedures
- After reviewing materials about historically important places, students choose a state and place to research for a project.
- Distribute folders, State Facts and Figures, reference materials, markers, pens and pencils.
- Students draw a picture of their site on the front of the folder.
- Students then write a paragraph about the historical site, explaining its significance in the history of the state. Place this paragraph on the inside of the folder.
- Students write up a list of important facts about the state which will be placed on the other side of the inside of the folder. Information to highlight can include, a picture of the state demarcating the capitol, and the major cities. Students can list the population of the state, the state motto, the state bird, famous residents, and nicknames of state residents.
- When students have finished this project, have them perform an oral report explaining the historical importance of the site they chose.
Students will research an historically important site and make a project explaining its historical importance.
