Relate

(10-15 minutes):
Ask students to complete “Parents and Kids Trade Places” with an older family member.

Solve

(10-15 minutes, “Animal Dad Matchup” cut up, one set per pair of students):
Most animals never even see their parents! Many never meet their fathers and some never meet their mothers, either. Some insects, fish, amphibians, and reptiles hatch from fertilized eggs and face life completely alone. When animals are raised by parents, it's most often the mother who does the rearing. But there are some unusual animal dads who have a big role in parenting. Use the “Animal Dad Matchup” to have students work in pairs to match up the dad with his parenting skills.
