Hands-On Christmas Tree or Wreath

Objectives

  • Students will make a Christmas tree or wreath.

Materials

  • Green construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Assorted art materials

Procedure

  1. Students trace their hands on green construction paper several times (the number of hand cutouts will depend on the size of tree you want to make).

  2. Students cut out tracings, and curl the cutout fingers by wrapping them (one at a time) around their pencils.

  3. Place on bulletin board (with palms up) in the shape of a Christmas tree or wreath.

  4. Decorate tree with a string of popcorn and other ornaments made by students.

  5. Variations are limitless. You may want students to make a few white hands to put throughout tree for a snowy effect.

  6. Older students may write a holiday message on one of their hands.

  7. The title of the bulletin board could be: "Many Hands Make Us Strong" or "For Our Hands Are Strong" or something similar.

Students create a beautiful display with cutouts of their hands. This is a fun arts & crafts activity for Christmas. Use it to create a classroom bulletin board, or as individual gifts for students to give to their parents!
