New This Week: Science and Math Projects Encourage 21st-Century Learning

This week, we have three new FutureFit Projects that combine science or math with 21st-century skill builders and social-emotional learning.

FFPs

1. Growth Hack Your Favorite Team

With this FutureFit Project, middle schoolers will develop a promotional plan to "growth hack" the attendance, ticket sales, and revenue for their favorite sports team.

  • Grades: 5, 6, 7
  • Subjects: Mathematics, Graphing, Measurement, Graphs and Charts

2. I Need to Charge My Phone!

Capitalize on your students' love for their smartphones with this FutureFit Project, which will have them planning and designing a phone charger that uses a source other than AC power.

  • Grades: 3, 4, 5
  • Subjects: Science, Energy and Matter, Science Activities and Experiments

3. DNA and Your Dinner: Genetically Modified Foods

What are GMOs? By the end of this FutureFit Project, students will understand the “how” and “why” of genetically modified foods, as well as the debate surrounding them. To finish up, students will either write a persuasive essay taking a stance on GMOs or invent a beneficial GMO food product.

  • Grades: 6, 7, 8
  • Subjects: Science, Genetics and DNA, Biology, Microbiology, Agriculture
