Adapt

Have students perform an in-class version of this exercise by replicating the positioning on the worksheet. Examples: Have students count off by number (1, 2, 3, etc.), and then instruct groups to position themselves in front of or behind furniture or objects in the classroom (for example, all 1s are behind, 2s are in front, etc.). Once students are properly arranged, progress through each student, at their location, and have the rest of the class indicate by talking aloud whether the student in question is in front of or behind the object.

Relate

Have students line up, one behind the other, in the classroom. Position yourself at the front of the line. Once they are lined up, have students indicate their position in line by announcing their name, and who they are behind (i.e. “My name is Sunita, and I am behind Michael”). You can either start at the front of the line with yourself, or the back of the line.
